Artist Statement
The work attempts to illustrate the social dynamics, behavior, and interaction of cultural stereotypes and preconceived imagery. Mostly the imagery derives from accepted standards used in advertising, television, and movies. The work specifically illustrates the odd subtleties of everyday life and iconographic imagery. Although satirically representing the mundane aspects of the normal life the model narrative is built with reverence for the subject and is depicted in a perfect model world. The diorama is utilized to allow criticism of the viewer while not insulting the audience through the God-like perspective of scale. The model allows distance and separation for the viewer, the same distance of the entertainment imagery from which the work is derived. Relevant to the work is the faux realism, appearing real is a mass-produced manufactured plastic scale replica painted and photographed to appear real, directly correlating with the concept of the stereotypical image for the scale reproduction is manufactured based upon the popularity of the accepted iconographic image.
